Part 61
Definition
Title 14 CFR Part 61 — the FAA regulation governing pilot certification under a flexible, non-structured training framework. Most small flight schools operate under Part 61.
Why It Matters
Part 61 schools have more scheduling flexibility than Part 141. There's no required curriculum structure, no mandated stage checks, and students can train at their own pace. However, minimum hour requirements are higher than Part 141 for most certificates.
