Static System Check
Definition
A biennial inspection of the pitot-static system required by FAR 91.411 for IFR flight. Ensures accurate altitude, airspeed, and vertical speed indications.
Why It Matters
Only required for IFR operations, but most training aircraft have it done alongside the transponder check. If an aircraft's static system check lapses, it can't be dispatched for instrument training flights.
